How to get the remote control switch for the light?

How I can do a remote control for a light? Is there a schematic for it? The light to be controlled is not controlled by an outlet.

Just buy one ... amazon sells them. I have one and it is impressive. I can control my fan about it:)

How does a remote control really work?

The remote has an infrared LED emitting pulses of invisible light. A photodiode in the receiver detects these pulses. The pulses are a bit like Morse code. If the correct code is detected, the receiving unit does the order.
