How can I make a US version of Final Fantasy 1 work on my UK NES?

I was given a US version of FF1 by a mate and it doesn't play on my NES. Are there any converters or anything that I could use to play the game on my console. I don't want buy a new console just to play it, or sell this copy and buy a UK version because they are really rare. Any advice?
