Opinions on NES 101, the new (early 90s) top loading nintendo?
Opinions on NES 101, the new (early 90s) top loading nintendo?
I have been looking for one on ebay to buy. I want to steer clear of the off brands and stick to the top loader nes made. What have you guys heard about it? anyone have one? I read something about some funny lines on the screen display.
I have one that's been working fine for the past 12 years or so. It'll should work indefinitely if you take care of it and it of course isn't as susceptible to the Blinking Red Light Syndrome. There are several annoyances though. You still have to clean out the carts, it requires some force to get a cart out of the system, and it can't easily handle a Game Genie. It also doesn't have an RCA composite output meaning you're stuck using the RF output to connect to the TV. I haven't noticed funny lines too much but then again I haven't played with any other NES for so long that I'm probably just used to it.
If all you're looking to do is to play NES carts without dealing with the blinking red light, you may want to consider buying replacement pins and installing those in a standard NES if you can't find a top- loader on eBay (I don't know if they're real rare but I've heard they're hard to find too). Supposedly it's real cheap and only takes a couple minutes to swap in and out.
