Nintendo DS -- Good RPG for a 10 year old?

Hey, my nephew is really into video games, and he has a DS. I want to get him an RPG for Christmas, but I haven't played console games since N64 was king, so I have no idea what contemporary RPG would be appropriate for a 10yo.

I got started on RPGs with Dragon Warrior 1, Crystalis and Final Fantasy 2. Nowadays, though, all the RPGs seem really complex with character customization, spell/alchemy/augury, etc. That's awesome, and I love the complexity, but they seem a little too difficult for a 10 year old.

Maybe I'm not giving him enough credit. He's really intelligent and he's pretty darn good at a variety of video games, and he's already played through several of the Pokemon versions.

Any suggestions?

I would try Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Is he strictly about the RPG? If he would appreciate some Action with his RPG you can try Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time -or- Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story are both good RPG's for the DS too. Two more examples would be The World Ends With You or Golden Sun, but they are a bit more edgy so it's up to you to do some reviewing on some websites and see if they are appropriate for your child.
